The Smart Design Conclave & Awards (SDCA) is back with a bang and this time in Kolkata. Yes, the much-awaited 16th Edition of the event is set to take place at Hotel Raajkutir IHCL SeleQtion on 12th September 2025.
A flagship initiative by Building Material Reporter, the conclave continues to unite the finest minds from architecture, interior design, real estate, and allied industries under one roof. This year’s edition promises to be a medium where people can meet, greet and exchange thoughts on innovation, architecture and design.
Leading Voices Joining the Conclave
The evening will begin with a Lamp Lighting ceremony, joined by an esteemed lineup of the who's who of Kolkata. Dignitaries like Show Curator Kamal Periwal, Competition Chairman Vivek Singh Rathore, Program Advisor Samiran Banik, and Co-Advisor Soumitra Majumder will be gracing their presence. Meanwhile, distinguished veteran, Ar. Dulal Mukherjee is the chief guest for the event.

Panel Discussion: A group of people from architecture, real estate, and beyond, led by Abhishek Dutta will dive deep into the topic: "Designing for Density: Navigating Space Constraints in Kolkata’s Expanding Urban Core." Their meaningful discussion in this session aims to generate interesting ideas to make the urban cities more livable and breathable.
Jugal Bandi: It's a unique design dialogue session titled “Two Cities, Two Legacies – One Dialogue in Design” featuring Ar. Hitesh Modi of Vadodara and Ar. Ayan Sen of Kolkata. Together they will have a cross-cultural exchange highlighting their respective region's design landscape.
Recognising Design Excellence
The event culminates with the SDCA Awards Ceremony, celebrating outstanding projects in Architecture and Interiors (14 categories) with a distinguished jury panel. It includes Vivek Singh Rathore, Prof. Mainak Ghosh, Devyani Jaiswal, Malay Kumar Ghosh, Ayan Sen, Ayan Sen Architects, Bankim Kalra and Ar. Runa Dasgupta Goswami.
Two of the event’s most prestigious recognitions: the Lifetime Achievement Award to Ar. Partha Ranjan Das and the Masterstroke Award to Ar. J.P. Agarwal, are given to felicitate and honour their visionary contributions to the field of architecture and design.
